Japanese Electronic Giant has lately unveiled the world’s first 64-gigabit NAND flash chip devised using 30-nanometer process technology. What all can this device do? This must be the obvious question.

If 16 such 64-gigabit flash devices are combined together then it would deliver a 128-gigabite memory card, enabling it to store 80 DVD movies or 32,000 MP3 music files and also DNA details of 40 individuals.

The company anticipates generating around $20 billion sales from 2009 to 2011 through this 64-Gigabit Flash Memory Device. Also, a great boost in demand of such chips is expected by iSuppli, a market research firm. It is anticipated that the demand for chips devised for computers will soar annually an average of 450% from 2007-2011 and 130% is the prospective growth expected in the demand of chips for mobile phones.
