Review Route 66 Maxi Europe

Monday, September 15th, 2008 | Gadgets, Gizmo News with No Comments »

In recent weeks, we were able to try another field GPS navigator. This is the Route 66, in versions Maxi and Mini with maps Europe and Italy (we focus on first for review).

The premise for our tests we had the written in a previous post, I remember the salient points.Ease of use, precision nell’indicazione position, clear directions to the path and, not least, maps updated. Then complete the budget guidance on speed cameras, points of interest, TMC system and possibly bluetooth.

The appearance of Route 66 Maxi Europe is very solid.Light enough without releasing the feeling of not having their hands for a “giocattolino.” Dimensions pocket joined to the screen by 4.3 inches make it practical to use both by car both for citizens walking paths. In the pack there is a solid support by car, but feels the lack of a case.

When you can see the brightness of the screen. Excellent graphics, clear and immediate usability. We had some initial problems. Probably the navigator that was sent was not ready for the Italian market, given the absence of our mother tongue.

We were pleasantly surprised research.E’ infatti possibile impostare immediatamente città ed indirizzo senza dover fare ricerche successive. E ‘can immediately set the city and address without having to search later.Once identified the destination, the route is calculated in a short time. Le indicazioni sono chiare, comprensibili e quelle vocali, cosa non da sottovalutare, arrivano nel momento giusto. The indications are clear, comprehensible and voice but not be underestimated, arrive at the right time.

It deserves a report identifying locations. In many cases, setting the fastest route, was indicated a highway or provincial. When one of these came in busy towns, navigator deviava proposing alternative roads and allowed us to avoid streets with traffic lights and particularly congested.

A citation also deserve Navteq maps, which in many places have proved much more updated than Teleatlas try recently. In the paths we’ve tried, are reported roundabouts and new roads opened by no more than a year.

Now we come to the painful points. The virtual button from which to access various menu is far too small. It ‘true that we should not touch the screen while driving, but if the passenger has difficulty to “focus” button, then there is something wrong in terms of usability. In this case it is a rejection without appeal. Another defect, but return to the original speech pattern probably pre-series, was the inability to store placement of icons and bar informative.
